Online Tools

These are just a couple of tools available to enhance the teaching/learning experience. This page will be constantly updated as a resource for TMEC instructors.

Edmodo is a private micro-blogging platform built for use by teachers and students for use in the classroom. Edmodo provides a way for teachers and students to share notes, links, and files. Teachers also have the ability to send, alerts, events, and assignments to students. Edmodo Teacher Rollout Resources

 

Prezi is a storytelling tool for exploring and sharing ideas upon a virtual canvas. Prezi enables users to zoom in and out of their presentation media and allows users to display and navigate through information within a 2-D space.

Text, images, videos and other presentation media are placed upon the canvas, and can be grouped together in frames. Users then designate the relative size and position between all presentation objects and may pan and zoom in and between these objects.

 

Skype allows users to make voice and video calls and chat over the Internet. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free. Skype has also become popular for its additional features which include instant messaging, file transfer, and videoconferencing.

 

Jing is a fast and easy way to capture images and create videos of what you see on your screen. Sometimes, using words to express yourself through online conversations just isn't enough. With Jing, you can capture what you want to say with a picture or a video instantly. Jing has a free version and a paid professional version. The video instructions below were created with Jing.

 

Wolfram|Alpha is more than a search engine. It gives you access to the world's facts and data and calculates answers across a range of topics, including science, nutrition, history, geography, engineering, mathematics, linguistics, sports, finance, music..."
